If the opponent's elbow is straight, you can go for an elbow lock. If the opponent's elbow is bent, you can go for a shoulder lock. In both cases you should try a simultaneous wrist lock.

Com ela, Shinya Aoki venceu Keith Wisniewski no torneio Shooto de MMA. Existem muitas variações dessa chave, como entrando pela frente, girando por trás (como no vídeo), combinando com chave de punho e transformando em chave de ombro, sem falar das inúmeras formas diferentes de pegada. Jorge "Gamebred" Masvidal, keeping physical contact with his opponent, used tactile sensitivity to predict, obstruct and deflect attacks received at close range. These are techniques present in old school karate and in the Muidokan curriculum, as can be seen in the video! [Português nos comentários] In old style karate, [Português nos comentários] In old style karate, kicks tend to be used in a far different fashion when compared to their applications in modern fighting arts. The self-defense nature of old style karate requires the use of more conservative and less risky (to the karate practitioner) maneuvers, in a way that the karate practitioner still can use their legs to perform extremely effective attacks, but without compromising their balance or wasting time, energy or other tactical advantages. Another fundamental aspect of those kicks, also common to all old style karate techniques, is the economy of movement, that provides application to every part of your motions instead of only the last pa.rt as is often seen today. . The video I posted here shares an example of a real typical old style karate and self-defense oriented kicking maneuver, and it employs the aspects mentioned above. It was shot in the middle of a normal non-collaborative kumite practice with my student Jânio Júnior, and I decided to share it here with a bit of commentary. . While the kick to my student's leg may look to have been particularly dangerous, it actually caused no harm to him, as the maneuver was carefully controlled from my side and skillfully received from his side. However, should never be attempted by not against those without sufficient training, due to the dangers of causing injuries to the receiver's knee, and in any case it must always be performed with extreme caution. Admittedly, karate training is often inevitably a dangerous activity, but if conducted with great care it can be far less dangerous (even less dangerous than other common physical activities such as playing sports). Fortunately to this date no student has ever been injured when training in our school - and we always do our best to keep it that way! .
